ALL 5th-8th students are responsible for completing ALL assignments (both in class AND at home).

ALL 5th-8th students MUST bring notebook paper, pencil, pen, and planner EVERYDAY.

All 5th-8th students will attend Assembly each day.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS (Alphabetical by class name)

ART– This class will guide students in the development of their artistic talents. This is done by first teaching students how to acquire the visual perception of an artist. The individual style of each student grows as they explore a variety of medias, artistic styles, and techniques. Students will gain the confidence needed to express individual creativity.  Class offered to 5th-8th graders.

EXPLORING SCIENCE– This class will dive deeper into different fields of science. It will cover topics such as: Paleontology, Astronomy, Meteorology, Marine Sciences, Earthquakes, Volcanoes, Quantum Physics, and more.  The goal of this class is to expose students to different sciences and hopefully spark a lifelong joy of learning.  Class offered to 5th-8th graders.

MISSIONARY STUDIES– This class will study about the lives of missionaries and learn how to reach out to our own community through occasional voluntary community projects.  Optional service projects will be planned outside of COMPASS hours.  ***NEW MISSIONARIES each year*** Class offered to 5th-8th graders.

Books Needed: REQUIRED Bible, Books MUST be purchased by parents and brought to EVERY class!  Books may be purchased throughout the semester as needed.  Siblings can share books.  Books will include the following:

MUSIC– In this class, students will explore musical concepts in a group setting.  Music students will have the opportunity to perform during the school year.  Class offered to 5th-8th graders.

P.E. (Physical Education)– This class will focus on physical fitness while doing gross motor activities and group games.  Class offered to 5th-8th graders.

  • solid athletic shoes
  • reusable water bottle (with name on it)
  • dress appropriately for the weather

PHOTOGRAPHY– This class is an introduction to camera operation and image production, composition, correct exposure, and proper lighting. Students will learn, play, and experiment with composition techniques to express their amazing ideas!  They will learn how to make the most of their DSLR camera (Digital Single Lens Reflex) or smartphone while working with different themes such as portraits, landscapes, wildlife, and real estate.  Class offered to 5th-8th graders.

Supplies Needed:

  • Camera (MUST have the capability to capture an image and show what was captured immediately. Manual mode would be good, but not required.  A Smartphone would work too.)

  • Binder (1in.)
  • Dividers with tabs

SCIENCE5th & 6th Grade– This class will introduce students to earthquakes, volcanoes, weathering, natural resources, cells, classification system, reproduction, genetics, atoms, molecules, motion, machines, and the nervous & immune systems.  This class will include fun and exciting experiments and science projects.  ALL 5th & 6th graders will take Science each day.

SCIENCE7th & 8th Grade– In this class the basics of science are covered, including classification of species, cell structure, relationships among organisms, genetics, microbiology, botany, zoology, and ecology, as well as more complicated topics such as evolution and creation, reproduction, and man’s relationship to the environment.  This class will include experiments and science projects.  ALL 7th & 8th graders will take Science each day.

Books Needed: REQUIRED- BJU Life Science 7 (4th Edition) TEXTBOOK and ACTIVITY LAB MANUAL (Siblings can share TEXTBOOK, but NOT activity lab manual.  Purchase only one textbook per family.  Purchase each child an activity lab manual.  We recommend buying the used 4th Edition.)

STORY OF THE WORLD VOLUME 35th & 6th Grade– This class will study Early Modern Times: From Elizabeth the First to the Forty-Niners.  ALL 5th & 6th graders will take Story of the World History each day.

Books Needed: REQUIRED- Story of the World Volume 3 TEXTBOOK (Siblings can share.  Purchase only one textbook per family.)

U.S. HISTORY7th & 8th Grade– This class will have a basic overview of U.S. History.  ALL 7th & 8th graders take U.S. History each day.

WRITING5th & 6th Grade– In this class, the students will use IEW Wonders of Science to write about science-themed topics such as insects, inventions, and famous scientists while they learn to write with Structure and Style.  ALL 5th & 6th graders take Writing each day.

Books Needed: REQUIRED IEW Wonders of Science Student Book

WRITING- 7th & 8th Grade– This class uses IEW Following Narnia Volume 1 to experience the enchanted land of Narnia while learning to write with structure and style.   ALL 7th & 8th graders take Writing each day.
