Asbury Reaching Kids

Asbury Reaching Kids (ARK) is on hiatus for the Summer months. They will resume meeting in September. Please check The Arbor for the exact date.

Welcome to Asbury Reaching Kids (ARK) at Asbury UMC.  We are happy your child is here.  We are going to learn about the Bible while having lots of fun.  Listed below are the activities your child will be participating in each Sunday night.

ARK will begin at 5PM each Sunday night during the school year.  You do not want your child to miss out on a single moment of fun.  The opening session will include:

  • Learning songs to reinforce the Books of the Bible, the Ten Commandments, the Twelve Disciples, the Armor of God, and the Fruits of the Spirit
  • Pledges to the American Flag, the Christian Flag, the Texas Flag, and the Bible
  • The Lord’s Prayer
  • ARM 100 Pound Contest- As offering, we encourage the children to bring non-perishable food or toiletry items for ARM (Asbury Relief Ministry).  A fun party (pizza, popcorn, popsicle, or ice cream) will be awarded each time we reach 100 pounds of food.
  • Game- The children will be divided into two teams.  They will answer questions from stories in the Bible. They will also be asked to recall memory verses from their memory books (study your memory book and learn the verses).  They will have surprise “sword drills” where they must locate a book, chapter, and verse in the Bible (bring your Bible).

After the opening, the activities will include:

  • Bible Memory verses- Your child will be bringing home their memory book each week.  Please choose verses to practice with your child.  When your child has memorized a verse or verses, please sign off (a parent signature is required) and they will say it to a leader.
  • Lesson- The children will hear a Bible story and do an activity or craft to reinforce the story OR they will learn a puppet show to present during the church service.
  • Music- The children will work on songs to be performed throughout the year on Sunday morning for the congregation.  We will also learn songs for a Christmas musical during the Fall semester and a Biblically-based musical during the Spring semester.

ARK will end each Sunday night at 7PM.  You may pick up your child in the children’s hallway.  Each Sunday please have your child bring their memory book, Bible, and ARM item.  Children are always encouraged to bring friends too.
